Accessibility Guide for the Salty Monk restaurant with rooms

Introduction

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our 5 bedroom Restaurant with Rooms. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will be delighted to help.

Pre-Arrival

There is a bus stop 50 metres from our Front Door- with a frequent service operating between Poole and Exeter X52 Jurassic coast service.

The nearest train station Honiton which is approximately 15 minutes by car (also served by a stagecoach bus route 52b).

There is an Exeter taxi service that has specially adapted accessible taxis. If required, we will be happy to make a booking on your behalf. Other local taxis are happy to help.

Menus can be provided in large print by prior arrangement.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

On arrival to the property, the car park is situated to the right of the building.

The surface is level, flat and gravel and there is a brick footpath with a slope leading from the car park to the rear entrance of the hotel- straight to the Restaurant.

The main entrance is accessible via the pavement and is signed from the car park.

There are marked parking bays and there is plenty of room.

We are more than happy to assist our guests with their luggage.

The village of Sidford is only a few minutes level walk from the hotel.

Main Entrance & Reception

There are two concrete steps down towards the front door from the pavement. The first step down is 10cm high. The depth of the step is 44cm. Then there's a second step of 10cm height. The front door has one step over the threshold 5cm high and the depth of the threshold is 31cm. We have a temporary ramp available if required (please request in advance and we can provide it on arrival).

The front door is always open - just lift the latch!

The door is 80cm wide. The front desk is to the right of the door.

The entrance hall narrows to a corridor of width 98cm (narrowing to a doorway of width 71cm to the bar). There is a door to the right leading to the lounge. This doorway also leads towards two of the bedrooms, Rose & Bluebell.

The hallway leads to the right straight into the lounge and straight ahead to the Restaurant (one step 15cm high into the Restaurant). There are double doors to the restaurant, which are always open. Doorway is 110cm wide.

The ground floor is carpeted (short-pile) throughout.

Public Areas- General (Internal)

Our corridors to the ground floor bedrooms and Restaurant are 98cm wide narrowing to a doorway of width 71cm
Corridors have a good colour contrast and lit, but due to the age of the building they are not brightly lit.
The flooring on all corridors on the ground floor is short pile carpet
The covering on the stairs and upstairs carpet is short pile carpet
We can provide a dog water bowl and dog food bowl on request. Also bedding and food can be provided.
The Restaurant and three of the 5 bedrooms are situated on the ground floor
The stairs lead to a further 2 bedrooms on the first floor.
The stairs are 19cm high, 23cm deep and 79cm (min.) wide. The first 5 stairs rise to a square 86cm x 84cm with a further 2 stairs rising to a second square 86cm x 79cm and finally a further 5 stairs leading to the first floor corridor.

Public Areas - WC

There are 2 public W.C.'s available on the ground floor. The larger of the two has an over-the-toilet seat/frame if required and there is also a wall-mounted grab rail. The toilet seat height is 43cm for both toilets. The corridor leading to the toilets is 80cm wide and narrows to a doorway of width 66cm. The doors to the two toilets are 64cm wide.

Restaurant, Bar & Lounge

Breakfast is served in the Restaurant on the ground floor.

Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.

All chairs are without arms and the height of the seats is 47cm.

We can provide menus in large print.

We play background music in the Restaurant & Lounge during dinner.

In the lounge there are seats of various heights.

Laundry

This is available - costs for specific items are listed in the room information folders.

Shop

Not available on the premises but a few minutes walk into Sidford village where there is a Post Office, Spar convenience store (open till 11pm) and Lloyds pharmacy.

Leisure Facilities

We have a masseuse and reflexologist who can be booked by prior arrangement to come to your room for reflexology or massage treatments (please call or email for more information).

Outdoor Facilities

Our garden is for the enjoyment of our guests, however we do request that your dogs are not exercised on our grounds.

Conference & Meeting Rooms, Banqueting, Clubs & Entertainment

For private functions of 18 people we have a private dining room.

Bedrooms

All bedrooms have Television and DVD player with Teletext and Furniture is usually movable on request.

There are three bedrooms on the Ground Floor, two of which are accessed via one step (14cm high) and a door (width 71cm).

BLUEBELL & ROSE: are both accessed through the lounge and up a single step (14cm high) and through a door (width 71cm).

BLUEBELL

On entering the room there is an inner hall which is 150cm max by 142cm max.
To the left there is an archway into the bedroom (75cm wide) and straight ahead is the door to the bathroom (75cm wide).
BluebelI is a twin-bedded room with Tempur memory-foam mattresses). The height of the bed is 57cm.
It can be made up as a Super-King sized double on request.
The room has two tub- armchairs (seat height 44cm) and a dressing table.
The minimum spacing between the far wall and bed is 33cm and between beds in this room is 58cm.

BATHROOM

The bathroom door from the inner hall is 74cm wide.
There is a bath which has a power-shower over.
We are happy to provide a rubber non-slip mat for use with the shower. There is an angled grab rail on the wall above the bath.
Bath height is 55cm, w.c. seat height is 42cm.

ROSE:

The door into the room is 71cm wide.
Due to the positioning of the bed in this room, the door does not open fully (opens to about 50°).
The seat height of the two armchairs is 44cm and the dressing table stool is 49cm high.
The minimum space is between the bed and wall is 55cm wide.
The flooring is an unfitted short pile carpet covering the majority of the bedroom floor and the rest is wooden block flooring.
There is access from this room to the garden (and carpark).
The door is 78 cm wide and the step over threshold of door 5cm high, the depth of the threshold is 14cm.

SHOWER-ROOM

There is a hydrotherapy walk-in shower.
The step into shower is 28cm high.
We are happy to provide a rubber non-slip mat for use in the shower.
The dimensions of the shower stall are 76cm max by 76cm max.
The flooring in the shower room is tiled.

HEATHER:

This is the Junior Suite which is separate from the main hotel.
It can be accessed directly from the car park, following the path through the garden.
There is a fitted short pile carpet on the bedroom floor.
There is one step into the room, the threshold over the door (8cm high). The depth of the threshold is 16cm .The door width is 74cm.
The spacing between wall and bed on the far side of the room is 44cm and on the near side it is 91cm.
This is a large room with a King-Size waterbed (height of bed is 50cm).
The seat height of the sofa is 42cm, there is also a low occasional chair (seat height of 41cm) and a dressing table stool (seat height of 49cm).
Heather has its own small courtyard area with a table and chair and bench (seat height 42cm). The courtyard is accessed by a small concrete ramp down. The ground of the courtyard is gravel.

BATHROOM

Door is 73cm wide.
Has a Jacuzzi bath with hand-held shower attachment to the taps. The bath has a grab-handle on either side.
The bathroom floor is tiled.

First Floor Bedrooms: There are two further bedrooms upstairs.

The stairs are 19cm high, 23cm deep and 79cm (min.) wide. The first 5 stairs rise to a square 86cm x 84cm with a further 2 stairs rising to a second square 86cm x 79cm and finally a further 5 stairs leading to the first floor corridor.

LAVENDER:

The door to the Master Suite is almost opposite the top of the stairs. The width of the door is 71cm. One metre from the door is a step up into the room (height 17cm).
The double bed is Super-King sized and has Tempur memory-foam mattresses. Height of bed 62cm. The room has a chaise-lounge style sofa (height 40cm).
The flooring in the bedroom is a thick pile fitted carpet.
The doorway leading to the bathroom area is 70cm wide. There is a curved wooden step from the carpeted bedroom area to the tiled bathroom area, of maximum height 3cm.

BATHROOM

The bathroom is open-plan with the bedroom and has a large free standing bath and a sauna-shower.
The dimensions of the shower cubicle are 70cm max x 85cm max. There is a moulded seat in the shower (height 43cm). The step up into the shower is 21cm.
The flooring in the bathroom area is tiled.
The separate w.c. is to the left of the room, door is 71cm wide. The wc seat height is 43cm. There is tiled flooring in the w.c..

MAGNOLIA:

To access this room there is a corridor of width 76cm and one step down (8cm high) in the corridor leading to the room.
The door width into Magnolia is 80cm. There is a small step over the threshold into this room- 10cm high and the depth of the step is 18cm.
Double room with kingsize bed. The height of the bed is 61cm.
There are two armchairs (seat height 39cm) and a further chair at the dressing table (height 44cm).
This room also has a window seat (seat height 41cm).
This room is fitted with a thick-pile carpet.

BATHROOM

The en-suite bathroom to this room has a Jacuzzi bath with shower attachment to the main taps.
The width of the bathroom door is 71cm.
The flooring in the bathroom is tiled.
The bath height is 58cm and the wc seat height is 43cm.

Grounds & Gardens

We have a rear garden for you to enjoy, mainly lawn with flowerbed borders and a patio area. There are plenty of tables & chairs and benches around the garden. There are also two ornamental fish ponds.

Only 200 metres away is the entrance to "The Byes"; a lovely National Trust walk (brilliant exercise for dogs and humans alike!) which leads to the town of Sidmouth, taking you along the river in places. It is a approximately 2 miles and a level walk- concrete or gravel all the way… no muddy footpaths!

Additional Information

Dogs are welcomed in two of our rooms: Rose & Heather.

Due to the age and structure of the building, mobile phone reception can be poor in some areas of the hotel.

We are a non-smoking building (smoking is permitted in the garden only).
